One of the world’s leading clean technology experts will speak at a major energy management conference next month

Jason Anderson, President and CEO of Cleantech San Diego President and CEO Jason Anderson will be the second keynote speaker at the EMANZ Energising a Low Emissions Economy conference in May.

Cleantech is a member-based trade organisation that has made San Diego a global leader in the cleantech economy.

It works to foster collaborations across the private-public-academic landscape to promote environmentally clean technologies and attract investment to the San Diego region.

California is regularly at the top of energy efficiency rankings in the US and Cleantech San Diego is a leader in driving that.

Its initiatives cover smart city developments, intelligent street lighting, working with schools, developing career opportunities in cleantech, electric vehicles, renewable technologies, energy efficiency and developing private-public initiatives.

“This is a real coup for EMANZ,” says EMANZ CEO Dr Mike Hopkins.

“Cleantech San Diego is a role model for what we need to achieve in New Zealand.

“It is renowned for being a leader not only in driving energy efficiency and renewables but in developing collaborative partnerships among industry, researchers and government.

“We’re not just talking about reductions in power consumption or using clean energy but about creating successful businesses and jobs in a new economy.”

The government has stated it wants New Zealand to be Net Zero by 2050, Hopkins notes.

“That means more than renewable generation, that means a low carbon economy and we need to understand what it will take to get there.

“Learning from the best means we can not only get there but create industries, businesses, jobs and an economy around getting there.”

Anderson will join other leading speakers including Steve Nadel, CEO of the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy; Murray Sherwin, Chair of the Productivity Commission; Rachel Brown, CEO of Sustainable Business Network; Andrew Caseley, CEO of EECA and Andrew Eagles, CEO of the New Zealand Green Building Council.

The Energy Management Association of New Zealand is a member-based, not-for-profit industry association of energy professionals.

EMANZ supports its members through a range of activities that raise skills, knowledge and all-round competence in energy management.
